Homemade Jewelweed Herbal Soap

Today we made our first batch of Jewelweed Herbal Soap.

The glycerin soap is infused with Jewelweed. We have enough Jewelweed to make 2 or 3 more batches. Then we will have to wait for next summer to harvest more Jewelweed.

Jewelweed needs to be fresh or there is not enough extract to infuse the soap.

I can't wait to try out the soap though I am not going to go out looking for poison ivy. When I was making this, I was thinking of my son who loves to go fishing but has a knack for finding poison ivy.

A friend of his gave him some Jewelweed soap years ago and he found that the soap worked better than Calamine lotion. The rashes were cleared up in about 24 hours after using the soap.

He said, "Hey Mom, you need to get me more of this soap."

The problem is that Jewelweed soap is hard to find. Not many know it exists.

The American Indigenous People have used Jewelweed for years to treat Poison Ivy, Poison Sumac, and Poison Oak.
